Republican Party, Really?

From the Republican Party Platform 2012 (page 10)

“We affirm that all legislation, rules, and regulations must conform and public servants must adhere to the U.S. Constitution, as originally intended by the Framers.”

Really? No free speech? No right to bear arms? Really? If you interpret the Constitution as the framers intended – there would be no bill of rights at all.

So many inconsistencies it hurts.

I’m hugely in favor of the US Constitution – AND all of it’s amendments. I don’t want to pick and choose.

Voting Rights in the US

OK. I am all for fail and reliable elections – but If you have to have state ID to vote, and the state charges $’s for an ID – tell me, how this does not violate the 24th amendment?

Background:

The 24th Amendment to the US constitution states:”The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.”
Some states are now requiring you present your state issued photo ID in order to execute your right to vote – even if you are properly registered. Any valid ID should be sufficient – but these laws require state issued ID. Problem is, the state charges to issue this ID.

How is this not a tax that must be paid in order to vote?
